Less than a month after soccer star Jorginio Frilo criticized a security guard believed to work for Chapelle-Rouin for his “extremely aggressive” behavior toward his 11-year-old daughter, Frilo shares that “new information” has changed his “understanding of parts of what happened” and that he now believes the situation has been “closed.”
On March 21, Frilo said that while attending Lollapalooza Brazil, his 11-year-old daughter spotted “an artist that she really likes, or had a crush on,” and tagged Roan twice in his initial Instagram Stories post, while having breakfast at the hotel and passed by the artist’s table to confirm it was her.
Frilo did not say which of his children he was referring to, but his wife, Catherine Harding, has an 11-year-old daughter, Ada, with Jude Law.
“She didn’t even come close to it,” Frillo wrote at the time. “She simply walked past the singer’s table, looked to make sure it was her, smiled, and went back to sitting with her mother. She didn’t say anything, and she didn’t ask for anything.”
What happened next was “completely disproportionate” as a “senior security guard” came to their table and addressed his wife and daughter “in a very aggressive manner,” Frillo said, adding that his wife “should not allow my daughter to ‘disrespect’ or ‘harass’ others.”
Frilo went on to criticize the artist after the incident left his daughter in tears.
“I have lived with football, public appearances and famous people for many years, and I understand very well the meaning of respect and boundaries. What happened there was not that. He was just a kid with a crush on someone,” he wrote. “It’s sad to see this kind of treatment coming from those who should understand the importance of fans. Ultimately, they are the ones who built all of this. I sincerely hope this serves as a moment of reflection. No one should have to go through this, especially children.”
In conclusion, he tagged Roan’s Instagram account and wrote: “If it weren’t for your fans, she’d be nothing. And for the fans, she doesn’t deserve your love.”
Rawan responded to the incident the next day, insisting that the guard was not her “personal security,” did not ask him to confront the mother and daughter, and Rawan said she did not even notice them.
“They didn’t come to me. They didn’t do anything. It’s unfair for security to assume that someone doesn’t have good intentions when they have no reason to believe, because no action was taken,” she explained in a video. “I don’t hate people who like my music. I don’t hate kids. This is crazy. I’m sorry to the mother and the baby because someone was assuming something and that you’re going to do something, and if you feel uncomfortable, it makes me really sad. You don’t deserve that.”
Now, while Frilo maintains that “the situation occurred as it was originally described,” he suggests that his reaction was driven more by his protective instinct as a father. He wrote on his Instagram Stories on Monday that his initial statement came “in the heat of the moment, after I heard that an adult male security guard approached my child and wife in a creepy manner… My priority is, and will always be, protecting my family, and that is exactly what I did.”
Saying that the bouncer has “since publicly confirmed that he was representing another artist at the hotel at the time,” Frillo adds that it is now clear that the bouncer was not acting on Rowan’s behalf.
Frilo said the incident was just a “misunderstanding” and he was “happy to set the record straight.”
“It is important to me that this is explained fairly and accurately,” he said. “I regret the impact this situation has had on Chappelle Rowan, Catherine, Ada and our family.”
Frilo also shared that Rowan reached out to his wife “privately” and that both sides’ teams “spoke directly.” He said the artist was “understanding and sympathetic,” and says that based on conversations with Rowan’s team, “it became clear that she was not aware of what happened during breakfast and did not ask anyone to approach them.”
In conclusion, he said that he “does not support or encourage hate speech or online attacks from any party” and stressed the values of “respect, empathy and humility… For me, this matter is closed.”
