Dwayne Johnson and Stephen Merchant 2019 movie Fighting with my family He is receiving music therapy.
Merchant’s Autobiography is being developed for the theater by Tilted Musicals, in collaboration with Seven Bucks Productions (co-founded by Johnson and Danny Garcia), Merchant himself, Kevin Misher, and the Birmingham Hippodrome.
With book and lyrics by Olivier Award-winning playwright John Brittain (Rotterdam, Cathy and Stella solve a murder!), Fighting with my family It will feature a new soundtrack by singer-songwriter Miranda Cooper and Nick Kohler.
The film is directed and written by the United Kingdom office Co-creator of Merchant, it premiered in January 2019 at Sundance. The film follows the true story of WWE superstar Paige (real name Saraya Beavis), played in the film by Florence Pugh. Pictures of Vince Vaughn, her trainer in WWE, and Crushing machine Johnson stars as himself, as well as serving as a producer on the film opposite Garcia for Seven Bucks Productions.
Merchant admitted that he always thought of the film as a musical. “A young woman from A Chorus Line struggles to get her big break, surrounded by larger-than-life stage characters and huge, overwhelming emotions,” he said. “I treated each wrestling match as if it were a different dance, leading up to a big episodic ending. Seeing the reimagined film on stage seemed like the natural next step.”
Johnson, who will next be seen at the live event Moana and Jumanji 3He said Fighting with my family He feels he is “exceptionally well suited to the theatre.” He continued: “It is full of personal emotion expressed through the dynamic world of wrestling, which has always been about storytelling and connecting with a live audience. Working with Stephen Merchant on the film was a truly special experience, and his incredible work is worthy of this new work. When it comes to musical life, I have no doubt that it will be an absolute blast for theatergoers.”
It is the first musical developed and produced by Tilted Musicals, a new production company run by Cooper and British producer and director Sam Hodges.
