When Kangana Ranaut credited yoga for her sister Rangoli Chandel’s recovery; “She also regained her lost sight in one eye.”
As International Yoga Day is celebrated across the world, an old post by Kangana Ranaut has resurfaced online. In the heartfelt throwback message, the actress spoke about the role yoga played in her sister Rangoli Chandel’s recovery after she suffered a life-changing acid attack.Kangana shared how the practice became a source of hope for her family during one of the most difficult periods of their lives. According to the actress, yoga helped Rangoli regain confidence and reconnect with the world after years of physical and emotional challenges.
The long rangoli battle after the attack
Rangoli Chandel was just 21 years old when she became the victim of an acid attack. The accident left her seriously injured and required multiple surgeries over several years.Recalling the traumatic period, Kangana wrote, “Rangoli has the most inspiring yoga story – Romeo threw acid on Rangoli when she was around 21 years old. She had third degree burns, half of her face was burnt, one eye lost vision, one ear melted and breast was badly damaged. She had to undergo 53 surgeries in 2-3 years but that was not all, my biggest concern was her mental health as she stopped speaking, yes no matter what happened I would not say a single word.” Just stare blankly at everything [sic]”,”The actress revealed that while the doctors focused on Rangoli’s physical recovery, her emotional health became an equally major concern for the family.
A family struggles through trauma
Kangana explained that the attack affected every aspect of Rangoli’s life. She recalled how her sister retreated into silence and had difficulty responding despite receiving medical care and counselling.Elaborating further, she wrote: “She was engaged to an Air Force officer and when he saw her face after the acid attack he left and never came back. Even then she neither shed tears nor uttered a single word. The doctors told me that she was in shock. They gave her treatment and put her on medication for psychological help but nothing helped her. At that time I was almost 19 years old. I was practicing yoga with my teacher Surya Narayan and I had no idea that it could help patients suffering from burns.” “And psychological trauma as well, with recovery from retinal transplantation and loss of vision.”The actress said that she was still very young at the time and was looking for ways to help her sister heal.
How yoga became a turning point
According to Kangana, she started taking rangoli with her to yoga classes. Over time, she began to notice positive changes in her sister’s behavior and outlook.Describing the transformation, Kangana wrote, “I wanted her so badly to talk to me, so I took her everywhere with me even to my yoga classes. I started practicing yoga and saw a radical transformation in her. Not only did she start responding to my pain and my silly jokes, she also regained her lost sight in one eye… Yoga is the answer to every question (misery) you will have, have you given her a chance yet?”
