Dutton Ranch, a spin-off of the Yellowstone series, concluded its first season on July 3, 2026, with the episode “El Padrino”. The nine-episode first season brought the story of Beth and Rip to Texas, where they believed they could build a new life away from the chaos of the past.
Instead, they are caught up in a dangerous web of secrets, drug trafficking, and a cartel connection that threatens everything they were trying to build.
What is “Dutton Ranch” about?
According to Paramount+, Dutton Ranch follows the story of Rip Wheeler and Beth Dutton as they gamble everything to build a new life in South Texas. The official synopsis states, “The promise of building a future far from the ghosts of Yellowstone quickly collides with harsh new realities and a rival ranch that will stop at nothing to protect its empire.”The series marks the famous couple’s departure from their Montana roots to Rio Paloma, Texas, where they take on new roles at a ranch called 10 Petal. When they realize the true nature of the farm and its ties to dangerous people on both sides of the border, things quickly become complicated, making this new beginning short-lived.
“Dutton Ranch” Season 1
The first season focuses on Beth and Rip’s work at 10 Petal Ranch, run by the Jackson family. Beth initially worked for Beulah Jackson, the matriarch of the family, while allied with Rip.
Throughout the season, the dynamic between the Duttons and Jacksons shifted from rivals to reluctant partners, though tensions simmered beneath the surface.A major turning point came when Austin, a farmhand, revealed the truth about Ten Petal’s operations to Rip and Beth. This revelation would set up the tense finale of the season. The season also dealt with Beulah’s complicated history, her history with Mariano, and the mysterious events in her life on the farm.
Summary of Episode 9 of Season 1 of “Dutton Ranch”: “El Padrino”
The final episode of Season 1 finally revealed the secret mission. Beth and Rip discover that 10 Petal Ranch has been in a massive drug trafficking operation for fifteen years. Cattle transported from Mexico were used as drug mules, with fentanyl hidden inside. When the cattle reached the tenth petal, the drugs were extracted and distributed.When a new shipment arrives at the beginning of the episode, Rip and Beth decide to investigate.
Rob-Will showed up to try to stop them, but Rip dispatched him and retrieved Rob-Will’s secret census book which revealed which cattle were carrying the drugs. Beth and Rip took several livestock to the Dutton Ranch, where they found approximately 3.5 kilograms of fentanyl, valued at approximately $2 million.
Sudden death and shock
The ending provided a shocking death that changed everything. Joaquin, on Mariano’s orders, shot and killed his brother, Rob Weil. The scene was particularly devastating for Rob Will’s daughter, Orianna, who had had a touching father-daughter talk with him moments earlier.Mariano Reyes, the true mastermind of the operation, finally emerges as the central threat. The episode revealed that Mariano coordinated everything from Mexico, where he worked as a powerful cartel leader. When Beth received a phone call from Mariano at the end of the episode, he dropped the biggest bombshell of the season: He had kidnapped Carter, Beth, and Rip’s son.

Beth and Rip now realize that the conflict has turned from a business dispute into something deeply personal.
