Jasmine Sandlas has been in the news for her amazing songs in ‘Dhurandhar’ and ‘Dhurandhar: The Revenge’, but apart from music. Amidst all the love she is getting and while sharing her experience in the film, Jasmine also opened up about her personal life.
In a recent interview, she spoke about her battle with alcohol addiction. Speaking about the difficult phase in her life, the singer shared how she hit rock bottom and eventually found her way back, with crucial support from her family, especially her mother.Yasmine revealed that she started drinking at the age of 23, and said during a conversation with Ranveer Allahbadia: “Before that, I abstained from it, but when life hits you, you look for support.”
Looking back on that period, she admitted she harbors remorse. “I regret some things I did during those 2-3 years when I was drinking. A lot of things built up. I was famous on one hand, I was feeling certain things, my family dynamics fell apart, my father was no longer around, and I was successful. I drank more than I should have, and I regret it, but it was important to me at the time,” she said, recalling the emotional turmoil she was in.
When asked why she turned to alcohol in her 20s, Yasmin traced back to unresolved pain from her childhood. “I had some heartache as a child from my parents. They broke my heart a few times unintentionally, so there’s resentment. I love them, but when a kid’s heart is broken, it stays broken. When you don’t have a safe place to run to, you look for a home in everything like crazy. I’ve done that my whole life, just longing and finding home.”
“Despite being surrounded by people, she described feeling very lonely. “Everything looks great from the outside, the alcohol is expensive, people are laughing, there were always people around me, but I used to sit on the balcony alone. There was a lot of loneliness in that crowd, but I didn’t know what to do or where to go.”Speaking about her recovery, Yasmine praised her family for helping her through her worst moments. “My mom and family have really helped me through it [recovery]They loved me through the rock bottoms.
My biggest battle was with myself.”It also highlighted how difficult it is to break free from old patterns. “The day starts, and you fall into your old habits. I prayed a lot to God, ‘Please save me, just give me another chance.’ I was so helpless. You just need the strength to say no to things. Family support is very important; don’t avoid them. When I detoxed my life. I felt like I had been given a new life,” she shared. On the professional front, Yasmin has contributed to the film’s music with songs like ‘Jaiye Sajana’ alongside Satinder Sartaaj, as well as ‘Aari Aari’ and ‘Main Aur Tu’.
