Patrick Horvath has turned into a lovable comic serial killer Under the trees where no one can see To a true hit franchise from independent publisher IDW, now the creator has invited some new blood to the rural town of Woodbrook.
Horvath recruited James Tynion IV, a hit-songwriter Something is killing the children and Gorgeous corpses; Tony Felix, the creator of the cute animals, is tinkering with the title brutal; and The ultimate Catwoman Co-writer Che Grayson, among others, to join him for a special original one-shot set in the world Under the trees.
Artists included in this endeavor include: TMNT Drawer Dave Wachter and cartoonist Jared Cullum (Usagi Yojimbo).
The anthology is Halloween-themed and is scheduled to hit stores on October 7.
Before turning his attention to comics, Horvath was a director of independent horror films, and wrote and directed a segment on the 2016 horror anthology film. South. He understands the appeal of form.

Under the treesWith her Ayman Richard Meets Scary Tones centers around a brown bear named Samantha Strong, a seemingly mild-mannered hardware store owner who is actually a serial killer, living on the outskirts of the rural town of Woodbrook. The six-issue comic book was a surprise hit when it debuted in 2024, and Horvath unexpectedly found himself working on the second volume, Under the trees where no one can see: a rite of springwhich concluded earlier this year. The third volume is in the works. Over 400,000 copies of the title have been sold to IDW and are the publisher’s best-selling original series.
While details of the new comic are being kept under the table, the story takes place in the years after Strong infamously left town (see the final second volume for all the gruesome details, I mean gruesome details). In that time, her legend grew, and more and more horrific murders were linked to her. Some of it you do, some of it is just folklore.
The premise sees the townspeople gather around a campfire and spill the beans on some of the most horrific acts.
“We reached out to creatives whose work we really liked and who we felt could tune into their specific wavelength Under the trees“,” Horvath said of the process of finding his collaborators. “In particular, I’ve always tried to maintain a kind of balance of keeping it sweet, macabre, cozy, and disturbing, and everyone on board really understands how to tap into that.”
Fleecs is paired with Wachter, his technical assistant Uncanny Valleyan independent comedy series from the duo that was nominated by Eisner for Best New Series in 2025. He has established himself as a writer of successful horror stories involving talking animals and a serial killer. Reckless dog And zombie horror brutalso it felt like a natural choice for the project.
“I was a Under the trees where no one can see “A fan before almost anyone else,” Flex said in a statement. “I read a review copy before the first issue came out and haven’t stopped singing out loud since. Patrick works in a sub-genre of the genre. It takes something familiar and comforting, adds outrageous violence and sickness to it, and creates something completely original.
Taeyeon stated: “Under the trees where no one can see It’s one of my favorite comics of the last few years, and I’m thrilled to be invited to have a little macabre fun in this murderous, unbalanced world that Patrick has created.
