History of the “Mummy” franchise.
Originally released in 1999, The Mummy quickly became a beloved adventure classic and launched a franchise that has spanned nearly a decade.
It was followed by The Mummy Returns in 2001, with Frasier, Weisz, John Hannah and Arnold Vosloo all returning for the sequel. The third installment, “The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor”, arrived in 2008, with Frasier and Hanna returning but Wise noticeably absent. Maria Bello stepped into the role of Evelyn in this film instead.
Another mummy movie is on the way too
It is worth noting that “The Mummy 4” will not be the only mummy-related movie that will arrive in cinemas in the coming years.
Director Lee Cronin is also working on a separate mummy movie, which will be released next spring. This film stars Jack Reynor, Laia Costa, Veronica Falcone, and Mae Calamawy. With two mummy films in the works, audiences will have more than one opportunity to revisit this type of film. But for fans of the original series, the arrival of “The Mummy 4” on October 15, 2027, with Fraser and Weisz returning to their original location, is the news they’ve been waiting for.
