Akshay Kumar was not involved in a road accident that hit his security convoy in Mumbai Juhu area late Monday night. One auto-rickshaw driver was injured and taken to hospital, police said. The actor and his wife Twinkle Khanna were travelling in a different vehicle ahead of the convoy.
WHAT HAPPENED
The accident took place near Mukteshwar Road in Juhu around 8:30 pm. Police said a speeding Mercedes first hit an autorickshaw. The impact pushed the three-wheeler into a vehicle that was part of Akshay Kumar’s security escort.
The escort vehicle later toppled on its side due to the force of the collision. Videos from the scene showed the damaged car and the crushed autorickshaw, drawing quick attention on social media.
INJURED DRIVER HOSPITALISED
The autorickshaw driver suffered injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital. His family said he was trapped under the vehicle and required urgent medical care. Police confirmed that no security personnel were seriously hurt.
Akshay Kumar and Twinkle Khanna reached home safely, officials added.
Mumbai POLICE ACTION
Juhu police registered a case of rash and negligent driving against the Mercedes driver. Officers said further investigation is underway and statements from those involved are being recorded.
Traffic movement in the area was restored after emergency teams cleared the road.
VEHICLE SAFETY DETAILS
The escort car involved in the crash was a Toyota Innova Crysta (2017 model), commonly used in VIP convoys. The model has a four-star ASEAN NCAP safety rating, with higher variants featuring electronic stability control achieving stronger safety scores.
Newer versions of the Innova family, including the Hycross, have received five-star ratings in later crash tests.
PUBLIC REACTION
Videos of the accident spread quickly online, with many users expressing concern for the injured driver. Police urged motorists to follow speed limits, especially in residential areas like Juhu.
