Project Healthy Minds, a technology-focused mental health nonprofit, is adding a prominent media executive to its board of directors.
Rich Kleiman, CEO and co-founder of Boardroom and 35V, will join the organization’s board of directors and help it expand its reach.
Kleiman joins a board of directors that already includes NBC today Co-host Carson Daly, Universal Music Publishing CEO Jody Gerson, media consultant Michael Kassan, and Indianapolis Colts co-owner Kalin Jackson.
As it happens, Kleiman’s career has spanned music, media, technology and sports, having helped launch Roc Nation Sports after serving as music director, and co-founding Boardroom and 25V with longtime collaborator and NBA star Kevin Durant. He has also spoken openly about his own experience with mental health.
Boardroom has moved aggressively into the media space, developing video and audio programs as well as a membership model.
Meanwhile, the Healthy Minds project was launched in 2020 with the support of a number of prominent figures in Hollywood. The organization is led by Phil Shermer. Last year, the organization honored Prince Harry and Meghan Markle at its annual gala.
“Joining the Board of Directors of the Healthy Minds Project is one of the most important moments of my career,” Kleiman said in a statement. “I have spent my life aware of the importance of mental health. I witnessed the challenges that derailed my mother’s life, and that experience affected me greatly as a result. It also became the greatest strength in my life to be able to tap into mental health resources myself and help others by speaking about my experiences.”
He added: “Once I got to know Phil and understood the organization’s mission, I knew this was the right fit for me. Phil is a special leader, and this is a very important and necessary platform.”
“Rich Kleiman has an uncanny ability to see what’s next and back the right people, ideas, and startups before they hit the big time,” added Phil Shermer, founder and CEO of Project Healthy Minds. “Rich is an icon who has spent his career at the intersection of sports, culture and business, and he understands better than anyone how powerful these platforms are to change the public conversation. The fact that Rich sees the Healthy Minds Project as one of those great moments is a testament to how far we have come, and I am so grateful that he is bringing his talents to accelerate our work in this exciting next chapter.”
