Asha Bhosle, the last living legend of Hindi film music, passed away at British Candy Hospital on Sunday at the age of 92. With a career spanning over seven decades, she has won hearts across India and the world.

She had been hospitalized the previous day due to heart and respiratory complications that led to multiple organ failure.

Her final rites will be held at Shivaji Park with full state honours. Born on September 8, 1933 in Sangli to Deenanath Mangeshkar, she began singing at an early age, making her debut with the song “Chala Chala Nav Bala” from “Majha Bal” in 1943.

Asha Bhosle’s legacy is rooted in music

Born into the illustrious Deenanath Mangeshkar family, Asha Bhosle’s early years were strongly influenced by music.

However, the sudden death of their father placed a great responsibility on the younger siblings’ shoulders, leading them to pursue singing professionally from a very young age, laying the foundation for an unusual but challenging career.

Today, her granddaughter Zanai Bhosle carries on the family’s artistic legacy, reflecting the lasting influence of a musical lineage.
