Veteran actress Anu Agarwal, who is best known for her role in the movie ‘Aashiqui’, has now entered the discussion over the ‘Peddi’ controversy. Janhvi Kapoor’s portrayal in the recently released film has drawn criticism from a section of viewers who feel that her character has been unnecessarily sexualized and objectified.
Since Janhvi has yet to publicly address the backlash, Anu chimed in with advice for young actors navigating such situations, “to hear the story first, ask questions, and if something is hurtful to human dignity, have the courage to say no.”

Anu Aggarwal reveals the reason behind her staying away from the film industry
The actress didn’t just offer advice; She spoke from her own life. She revealed that she turned down many film offers and eventually left the industry because she refused to be part of something that disrespected women.
On June 7, she took to Instagram and wrote: “Recent conversations about Peddi reminded me of a choice I made a long time ago. I applaud today’s audience for speaking up and demanding more dignity in the portrayal of women.
But the responsibility does not fall solely on the public. And it’s not just filmmakers. It falls on us actors too. “More than 30 years ago, after my lover, I made sure to hear the story before signing on to the film.”
She also added, “The objectification of women was the norm. I chose to act against that norm. The films I made were a testament to that choice. In many ways, this is one of the reasons I eventually moved away from films. Today, I encourage young actors and actresses to hear the story first. Ask questions. And if something harms human dignity, have the courage to say no. Stories will change when the audience demands better.”
But it will also change when we, the actors, refuse to participate in what we no longer believe.
