Ram Gopal Varma is known for producing some popular gangster films like ‘Satya’ and ‘Company’. Not to mention, these films also required him to have a deep insight into the lives of gangsters, which is why he had a very “human” approach to these characters.
When “Satya” was re-released in theaters last year after the film completed 27 years, Varma spoke about why he portrayed gangsters in such a vulnerable, human way. Here we remember what Varma said amid the success of the film Dhurandhar 2, in which he also played the character of Dawood Ibrahim. The internet was shocked by the fact that Dawood Ibrahim appeared in such a frail way in his old age, rather than the way one had pictured him.
During a conversation with ETimes, RGV recalled some examples he heard about Ibrahim during the re-release of the film ‘Satya’. Durandhar 2 movie reviewVarma wanted to humanize the gangster, and here’s why. “One police officer told me, when we were tracking a gangster, out of stress he had a fever. His temperature went up. I thought that was unbelievable. A gangster having a fever was not something I thought about. See, all these things keep getting added in my films.”
One of the reporters was the only one who met Daoud Ibrahim. I met him once and he had a bad cold.
Another man said to me, You are afraid of Daoud because he is talking on the phone, and he is an unknown man. “But if you knew he would stay in Bandra, you wouldn’t be afraid of him. He might have the same power but you would think like, ‘Aare idhar hai rita hai,'” the director laughed.the ‘

The director also revealed that he was not afraid of the underworld. The director also noted that many people told him not to shoot ‘Satya’ because they thought the underworld would be disturbed. But the opposite happened for Pharma. “A lot of people have warned me not to do it. I’m not saying someone is bad. I’m just making a film. So, they were happy. I showed the human side of it. In fact, I was the only one at that time, who didn’t get a blackmail call because of Satya.”
They were like “usko chhodo”. “I got a free cut,” he said.See More: ‘Dhurandhar 2’ Box Office Collection Day 19: Ranveer Singh, Rakesh Bedi, Sanjay Dutt, Sara Arjun Starrer Eyes Rs 1,630 Crore Worldwide
