After 20 years, Paresh Rawal confirms 'Malamaal Weekly 2', Riteish Deshmukh and Rajpal Yadav in talks: 'Yes, it's true...'

Priyadarshan’s 2006 hit ‘Malamaal Weekly’, a village comedy about a Rs 1-crore lottery loss sparking schemes, starred Paresh Rawal, Riteish Deshmukh, Rajpal Yadav and the late Om Puri. After 20 years, Parrish confirms the second part: “Yes, that’s right. I’m doing the movie.”

In 2006, Priyadarshan dropped “Malamaal Weekly”, a riotous village tale about a stray lottery winner’s ticket that turns the neighbors into prize-chasing conspirators. This film featuring late Om Puri, Rajpal Yadav and Riteish Deshmukh is finally getting a sequel after 20 years.

While still waiting for the official announcement of ‘Malamaal Weekly 2’, Paresh Rawal confirms to Hindustan Times: “Yes, it is true. I am doing the film.”

Interestingly, Priyadarshan directed a film in 2012 titled ‘Kamal Dhamaal Malamaal’, which is believed to be a reboot of ‘Malamaal Weekly’. It also stars Paresh Rawal, Rajpal Yadav, Om Puri, Nana Patekar, and others.

‘Malamaal Weekly’ featured Ritesh Deshmukh, Paresh Rawal and Rajpal Yadav. It was released in theaters in March 2006 and has now completed two decades. The comedy centers around a lone literate man in a small village who learns that a fellow villager has won the Rs 1 crore lottery, only to realize that the winner has suddenly died. What unfolds is a series of crazy events, as the villagers make crazy plans to hide the death from the lottery inspector while trying to outwit the greedy village chief and pocket the prize money.Directed by Priyadarshan, the film also stars Reema Sen, Shakti Kapoor, Sudha Chandran, late Asrani and Rasika Joshi in pivotal roles.
