Fans of Bollywood power couple Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai have been sent into flashback mode, as old pictures of the couple from their wedding day have once again gone viral on social media.

Pictures of Abhishek and Ash in their royal wedding ensembles have resurfaced online after fans made comparisons between the actor’s wedding accessories and a stunning piece of jewelery – which was once part of the Nizam of Hyderabad’s crown jewels – spotted at the 2026 Met Gala.The renewed fascination with the pearl, diamond and emerald piece emerged after netizens noticed that Bachchan was wearing a strikingly similar kalji on his turban, during his wedding ceremonies with Aishwarya in 2007. Archive photos from the couple’s lavish wedding in Mumbai have now joined the online debate about the famous Nizam jewels.

While there was no official confirmation regarding the said piece of jewellery, designer duo Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla spoke about turning Abhishek and Aishwarya’s wedding into a royal affair.
Designers highlighted the complexity of the groom’s clothing. “He had some of the best jewelry available. He wore amazing pieces, which Apu and I got. It was the first time someone had worn a Mughal beaded necklace.”
There were ruby buttons on Abhishek’s sherwani, Abu recalls.
While the dashing groom rocked diamonds, rubies, pearls and other gems, the beautiful bride was decked out in gold.
Aishwarya was known for her choice of traditional gold woven Kanjeevaram saree, which she accessorised with heavy gold jewellery.
Patiala necklace sparks controversy at Met Gala 2025
While Nizam’s headpiece caused a stir this year at the Met Gala, last year, another controversy erupted after Punjabi star, Dilji Dosanjh, was refused permission to wear the famous 1928 Cartier Patiala necklace at the 2025 Met Gala because it was part of a long-term loan to the Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A) in London and not available for loan, the New York Times reported. Internet users were upset that Dilgit was deprived of the piece, but Emma Chamberlain was able to wear pieces of it, in 2022 during her appearance at the Met.However, Diljit still wears a custom outfit and a replica necklace from Golecha Jewels to honor his roots.
