NCTE opens applications for ITEP 2027-28 under NEP 2020, inviting eligible institutions to apply: check details here

The National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) has invited online applications for Phase VI of the Integrated Teacher Education Program (ITEP) for the 2027-28 academic session.The program is being implemented in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which aims to improve the quality of teacher education in India. As per the official notification, institutions can apply online from May 8, 2026 to May 31, 2026 until 11:59 PM.Applications will be accepted only through the official NCTE portal. The Council has asked eligible multi-disciplinary institutions to apply under Sections 14 and 15 of the NCTE Act, 1993.

What is NCTE?

NCTE is a statutory body established under the National Council for Teacher Education Act, 1993. It began its functioning on August 1, 1995.The authority is responsible for regulating teacher education in the country and maintaining appropriate standards in teacher training institutions.

Only qualified organizations can apply

Only institutions that meet the specified shortlisting criteria will be further considered, NCTE said. Applications from institutions that do not meet the required conditions will be rejected.

The shortlisting rules were approved during the 69th General Body Meeting of the Council held on 5 May 2026.

Focus on better teacher education

The Integrated Teacher Education Program is an important part of the NEP 2020. The policy aims to improve teacher training by promoting integrated and interdisciplinary education. The government wants future teachers to get better academic training through these programmes.

Processing fees apply

Institutions applying for ITEP will have to pay processing fees as per NCTE Rules 1997 and subsequent amendments, NCTE said.
