Piyush Goyal says exports are up 15% so far in the June quarter despite global headwinds

Speaking at a meetup with chartered accountants in Mumbai, Goyal said export growth has remained strong even as global trade faces multiple challenges.

India’s exports of goods grew by about 15% during the period from April 1 to June 14, despite persistent global economic uncertainties and higher US tariffs, indicating the continued resilience of the country’s foreign shipments, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said on Sunday.Speaking at a meetup with chartered accountants in Mumbai, Goyal said export growth has remained strong even as global trade faces multiple challenges.“So far, if we see April, May and 14 days of June. I have data until June 14, (export growth) is 15 percent,” the agency quoted him as saying. The Ministry of Commerce is scheduled to release official trade data for June on July 15.Goyal said India’s exports in 2025-26 continued to see healthy growth despite the US imposing 50% tariffs. The comments come after India’s exports rose 18% year-on-year to reach a six-month high of $45.2 billion in May. However, the country’s trade deficit widened to $28.21 billion during the month.During April-May 2026-27, exports increased by 16.09% to $88.91 billion, while imports rose by 15.14% to $145.35 billion. The trade deficit during this period amounted to $56.44 billion.Addressing the gathering, Goyal also called on chartered accountants to contribute towards the goal of making India a developed country.

“And where does Fixit Bharat start? It starts in north Mumbai. We have to deal with our region first,” he said.Goyal, who represents North Mumbai in the Lok Sabha, said he has asked senior officials, including the municipal and municipal corporation commissioner, to launch a cleanliness drive in the constituency from Monday.“We all have to make a collective effort for this. We keep our house clean, we also have to keep our neighborhood clean, we keep our community clean, we keep our Karupar (business) clean as well,” the minister said.
