Tata Sierra EV Launched on June 30: Maruti e Vitara, Creta Electric Rival!

Tata Motors is all set to expand its electric vehicle portfolio with the launch of the much-awaited Sierra EV in India on June 30. The upcoming electric SUV is expected to compete with rivals like Hyundai Creta Electric, Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara and Mahindra BE 6 in the growing mid-size electric SUV segment. The Sierra EV is expected to have a distinct visual identity compared to the ICE Sierra. As with most electric cars, Tata is likely to equip it with a closed grille, redesigned bumpers and aerodynamically improved alloy wheels.Inside, the Sierra EV is likely to be positioned as a premium offering within the Tata lineup. The cabin is expected to feature a modern dashboard design with large digital screens.

Lower versions could get a dual-screen setup, while higher-spec versions are likely to offer a three-screen layout similar to what’s seen in the internal-combustion-powered Sierra.

Tata can equip the SUV with a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, dual-zone climate control, wireless smartphone charging, a 360-degree camera and an electric tailgate. Additionally, the Sierra EV is also expected to offer connected car technology, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, along with a 12-speaker JBL sound system featuring Dolby Atmos technology.

In terms of powertrain options, the Sierra EV is expected to fall between the Curvv EV and Harrier EV in Tata Motors’ electric vehicle lineup. The SUV can be offered with multiple battery pack options, including 55 kWh and 65 kWh units. Higher models may also receive a larger 75 kWh battery pack, similar to the one currently available on the Harrier EV.Tata is likely to offer more than one powertrain configuration as well.

Entry-level variants could feature a single-motor setup, while higher-end models may get a dual-motor arrangement with all-wheel drive capability. These versions are expected to use Tata’s Quad Wheel Drive technology, which made its debut in the Harrier EV.Another highlight is the inclusion of Tata’s Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) programme. Under this ownership model, customers can purchase the vehicle without the battery and choose a subscription-based battery plan separately. This helps lower the initial purchase cost and can make electric vehicle ownership more accessible to a wider range of buyers.
