‘Black Panther 3’ has been officially confirmed! The upcoming MCU superhero film, which originally starred the late Chadwick Boseman as King T’Challa, is now set to take a whole new direction with its third installment.
During the San Diego Comic-Con event, production studios announced several new and upcoming projects planned for the cinematic universe.
David Johnson Joins “Black Panther 3”
While the projects were already a top priority in discussions, no new updates have been announced. Deadline reported that during Comic-Con’s H panel, Ryan Coogler, who directed the previous two films, confirmed that he would be returning for the upcoming film. Not only that, but The Long Walk actor David Johnson has also been announced as the new Black Panther.
T’Challa’s son was first revealed at the end of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.Instead of a recast, Marvel has confirmed that Johnson will take up the mantle of Black Panther; However, he will play T’Challa’s son in the upcoming film. The official release date has also been set for December 15, 2028. It has also been revealed that the upcoming third installment will be shot entirely on larger format film.
Letitia Wright and Winston Duke will also reprise their roles in the 2028 film as Shuri and M’Baku, respectively.Back in 2023, while speaking with Variety, Wright talked about working on Black Panther 3 and how she felt the new film was already in the works. She commented at the time, saying, “You know, we’ve had a great two years putting this project out there and everyone coming together to support it. We need a break, we need to regroup, and Ryan needs to get back into the lab, so it’s going to take some time, but we’re really excited for you guys to see that.”
