Dharmendra Pradhan Live News: Life is expected to return to normal in Delhi on Sunday, a day after Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan resigned, following weeks of nationwide protests led by the Kokruche Janta Party (CJP). While the movement announced that all its demands had been met, it also withdrew its call for incitement at the national level. Public transport is also scheduled to resume normal operations after days of unrest. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) said that all stations across the network are now open for passenger services, with entry and exit gates operational.

The reopening of metro stations comes after several stations in central Delhi remained closed and internet restrictions were imposed during the height of the protests, which culminated in celebrations at Jantar Mantar on Saturday after news of Pradhan’s resignation reached protesters.
Later in the evening, Rashtrapati Bhavan announced that Pralhad Joshi, who currently heads the Ministries of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution and New and Renewable Energy, has been given additional responsibilities of the Education Ministry.
Celebrations erupt after the resignation
As jammers spread across parts of central Delhi, news of Pradhan’s resignation slowly seeped into the protest site on Saturday afternoon. But once the announcement was confirmed, celebrations erupted almost immediately.
After the RJD delegation met Union ministers after the resignation, the movement’s 30-year-old founder, Abhijit Debke, described the development as a historic victory.
“This is a big win. It shows that the country is being run according to the Constitution. This is just the beginning… I would like to thank Chief Justice of India Surya Kant. Thank you for calling us cockroaches. If he had not said this, I would not have come to India and this movement would not have started,” Debki said.
Later, in a short post on X, he wrote: “I’m going to take a nap. See you all in a bit.”
Music, dance and emotional scenes
Although the CJP officially declared the end of its protest and some demonstrators began to leave the scene, many protesters continued to arrive to celebrate what they described as a hard-won victory.
Patriotic and popular Indian songs, including Chak De! India and Rang Di Basanti echoed over loudspeakers as protesters danced, hugged each other and chanted slogans like “Inquilab Zindabad” and “Bharat Mata ki Jai.”
The celebrations extended beyond Jantar Mantar to Connaught Place, Sansad Marg and Tolstoy Marg, where groups of supporters gathered during the evening.
The protest lasted 36 days
Saturday marks the thirty-sixth day of the unrest, which has witnessed several dramatic developments over the past month.
The movement saw activist Sonam Wangchuk and at least three students go on a hunger strike. Authorities later forcibly removed Wangchuk, while protesters clashed with police during a July 20 march, when sticks and tear gas were used.
More than 100 demonstrators and more than 100 police officers were injured during the violence. The authorities also suspended internet services in parts of central Delhi and closed several metro stations amid tight security measures.
Pradhan’s resignation came after intense activity within the government and multiple rounds of engagement with protest leaders, bringing an end to the month-long unrest and paving the way for normalcy to gradually return across the city.
