Even months after its theatrical release, ‘Parasakthi’ is still a topic of discussion among cinephiles and trade circles. The film carried huge expectations as it brought together Sivakarthikeyan and director Sudha Kongara for the first time. Buoyed by the success of Amaran, the actor’s market reached a new high, and many expected Parasakthi to become another blockbuster.
However, despite strong pre-release hype and positive expectations, the film was unable to achieve the box office numbers many expected.

Speaking about the film’s theatrical release in a YouTube chat with Chitra Lakshmanan, producer Akash Bhaskaran admitted that several factors affected its commercial performance. “The controversy surrounding Parasakthi, its clash with other films, censorship issues and huge expectations all played a major role in the film’s box office result,” he said.
He also added, “We produced both ‘Parasakthi’ and ‘Idli Kadai’ on a profit-sharing model.
‘Parasakthi’ was a big budget film, but its box office collections were not at the expected level compared to the investment.” His comments provide a clearer picture of why the film was unable to meet financial expectations despite the hype.

Akash Bhaskaran also explained the difference between the two films from a business perspective.
“That’s why we couldn’t pay the full profit share agreed upon for ‘Parasakthi’. But ‘Idli Kadai’ was produced on a much lower budget and turned out to be a profitable project for us. So, we were able to fulfill our commitment and pay the full profit share we promised to Dhanush,” he said. His statement caught attention as it directly compares the financial results of both the projects, showing how budget and box office performance impacted the final returns.
Aakash Bhaskaran’s comments reveal a little about the filmmaking. While Parasakthi may not have met box office expectations, Idli Kadai turned out to be a profitable venture due to its low budget and consistent run in theatres.
