Sonam Wangchuk remains under close medical supervision at Delhi’s Safdarjung Hospital, where doctors said his vital signs were stable, but cited ongoing medical concerns linked to his long fast in support of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protest.

In a health bulletin issued by Vardaman Mahavir Medical College (VMMC) and Safdarjung Hospital at 9am on Tuesday, doctors said Wangchuk’s blood sugar levels were still on the lower side, while his serum potassium level stood at 3.2 mEq/L based on a sample collected overnight.
Sonam Wangchuk also continues to suffer from persistent pancytopenia, which is characterized by anemia and low white blood cell count, necessitating continued close monitoring through serial investigations, the medical bulletin said.
According to the bulletin, Wangchuk has been receiving oral rehydration solution (ORS) and oral potassium supplements, but has continued to refuse intravenous fluids and glucose despite repeated medical advice.
Doctors said he still suffers from mild to moderate dehydration, in addition to laboratory abnormalities and physiological stress associated with fasting for long periods.
“In light of persistent mild to moderate dehydration, persistent laboratory abnormalities, and the physiological stress associated with prolonged fasting, ongoing medical supervision and ongoing clinical monitoring remain essential for his recovery and timely identification and management of any potential complications,” the bulletin said.
She added that all necessary medical care is being provided and that his clinical condition is still under careful and continuous evaluation. She added that further treatment will depend on his clinical progress and serial laboratory tests.

Wangchuk has been admitted to Safdarjung Hospital since authorities transferred him there after his health deteriorated during his hunger strike in support of the CJP-led movement. His hospitalization became a flashpoint in the wider unrest, with the activist insisting he wanted to continue his fast and repeatedly asking for permission to join the protest.
The latest health update comes a day after thousands of RJD supporters marched towards Parliament during the ‘Chalo Sansad’ protest organized by the outfit, leading to widespread clashes with police, arrests, traffic restrictions, internet blackouts in parts of Delhi and heavy security deployment across the national capital.
Meanwhile, Delhi Police has registered an FIR against unidentified persons in connection with vandalizing vehicles and pelting stones at Connaught Place and Parliament Street during the protest to reach Parliament, police sources said on Tuesday.
According to police, miscreants allegedly vandalized police vehicles and pelted stones at a police team near Regal Cinema in the outer circle of Connaught Place. The incident is being investigated further.
Officials have registered FIRs under various sections of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including riots related to incidents involving violence, vandalism, damage to public property, obstruction of government employees in discharging their duties, and snatching of police equipment like jackets and helmets during the protest at Jantar Mantar, sources said.
