Sonam Wangchuk’s wife, Gitanjali J Angmu, is set to lead the Cockroach Janta Party’s march to Parliament today, July 20, after the activist was forcibly admitted to hospital by Delhi Police on Saturday.
Wangchuk is on the 23rd day of his indefinite fast. It demands the resignation of Federal Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over irregularities in the examination system and student suicides.
“He is still on hunger strike. If Sonam cannot walk to Parliament, I will lead the march. The march will definitely happen,” Angmo told reporters on Sunday outside Safdarjung Hospital. Track the CJP’s July 20 rally here
Who is Gitanjali Ji Angmo?
Gitanjali J. Angmo is a social entrepreneur and educationist. She has been the founding CEO and dean of the Himalayan Institute of Alternatives, Ladakh (HIAL) since 2017, according to her LinkedIn profile. She is said to be the second wife of Sonam Wangchuk.
She founded TransformIndia in 2020 and has run The Helios Books since 2009. She was a Chevening Fellow at the University of Oxford in 2021-2022.
Before joining HIAL, she worked in renewable energy, healthcare, education, technology and business consulting. She was a director at WinDForce Management Services, headed AUM Hospitals, and headed KC High School in Chennai.

Earlier, she worked as a director at Buchan Projects and headed the European operations of Lister Technologies. She began her career at Deloitte.

She also teaches Vedanta and Bhagavad Gita.
Angmo has received the National Women Transforming India Award from the Government of India. She is trained in Odyssey, Russian Ballet, and Karate and holds a black belt.

Angmo received her doctorate in education from Sri Sathya Sai University of Human Excellence in 2025, LinkedIn says.
She holds an MBA from Xavier Institute of Management (XIM), Bhubaneswar, and a Bachelor’s degree from Fakir Mohan University, Balasore.
“He was brought in without our consent.”
On July 18, Wangchuk was forcibly removed from Jantar Mantar by Delhi Police and taken to Safdarjung Hospital. They cited health concerns and a Supreme Court order regarding his indefinite hunger strike.
When this matter was questioned, Angmo claimed that neither she nor her husband were informed before his transfer.

“Sonam Wangchuk was brought here from Jantar Mantar site without informing him or me. Only yesterday evening, doctors from Safdarjung Hospital examined him, and all his vital organs were normal. But now they are telling us that his potassium level has dropped and it is life-threatening,” she told reporters on Saturday. She claimed that the hospital authorities did not display the medical report despite repeated requests.
Wangchuk will end quickly if the leaders confirm the support: the wife
His wife Gitanjali Angmo said on Sunday that Wangchuk would end his hunger strike on Monday if political leaders visited him at Safdarjung Hospital and assured him that they would raise the issue of accountability for education during the current Parliament session.
Delhi HC rejects Wangchuk’s transfer
The Delhi High Court on Sunday refused to order immediate transfer of activist Sonam Wangchuk from Safdarjung Hospital to a private facility, saying there was no need for interim relief.

The court said Wangchuk was not in detention, that his family had been able to reach him and that doctors were monitoring his health condition. She requested a status report within three days and published the matter on July 24.
In a handwritten note from the hospital, Wangchuk claimed that he was “illegally detained” at Safdarjung Hospital, “where my freedom of movement, expression and all communication is restricted.”
The petition was filed by Gitanjali Angmo, who sought his transfer to a private hospital, unfettered access to his personal doctors and lawyers, and alleged that she had not received complete information about his health.
Angmo moves to court again
Angmo has once again filed a case in the Delhi High Court against the judge’s refusal to transfer him to a private hospital, Angmo news agency reported on Monday.
The appeal says the order violates Wangchuk’s rights under Articles 19 and 21, including his right to choose his treatment and continue his protest. Angmo’s legal team said it would seek an urgent hearing before the division bench on Monday.
