The Kremlin announced on Tuesday that it is in contact with Indian authorities after four Indian citizens were killed in a Russian raid in the Black Sea.
A missile attack on a cargo ship in the Black Sea as it was leaving the port of Odessa in Ukraine killed at least 10 people, including four Indians.
The statements of Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov come in the wake of New Delhi’s summoning of the Russian Chargé d’Affaires regarding the incident.
According to Ukraine, Kiev said Russia struck the Golden Leo, a Guinea-Bissau-flagged ship operated by an Indian and Syrian crew, with three cruise missiles.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, one of them was taken to hospital in critical condition, along with the four Indian nationals who were killed.

“Our mission in Ukraine is closely monitoring the situation and is making every effort to provide all possible assistance to those affected,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated.
The statement added: “We extend our deepest condolences to the families of the deceased Indian citizens and wish the injured Indian citizen a speedy and complete recovery.”
In addition, India summoned Russia’s top diplomat to convey “unequivocal condemnation” of the Russian attack on the merchant ship.
As HT reported, Russian Charge d’Affairs Vladimir Ladanov was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in full view, with TV crews filming his arrival on Tuesday morning.
The ministry “conveyed India’s grave concerns and unequivocal condemnation of the attack on the merchant ship MV Golden Leo on July 19, 2026, which resulted in the tragic loss of four Indian lives,” an official statement said.
