Speaking to reporters on Saturday, Angmo said Wangchuk was brought from Jantar Mantar to Safdarjung Hospital without their consent. She added that just because Wangchuk was forcibly taken to hospital did not mean that the march would not happen.

“Sonam Wangchuk was brought here from the Jantar Mantar site without informing him or me. Only yesterday evening, doctors from Safdarjung Hospital examined him, and all his vital organs were normal. But now they are telling us that his potassium has decreased and it is life-threatening,” Angmo told reporters. She added that the hospital did not show the report when asked about it.

“Even if Sonam cannot join the march, I will represent him and lead that march, and it will happen on Monday as planned. It is not just that they forcefully brought Sonam here, they can stop it,” she said.

“Sonam is still fasting”

Wangchuk refused the electrolyte powder and continued his fast, Angmo said.

“Sonam Wangchuk has fasted for 20 days, and is still continuing. The doctors talked about giving him electrolyte powder, but he refused. His fast is still continuing,” she said, according to news agency PTI.

Questioning the circumstances surrounding his hospitalization, Angmo said the Delhi High Court had ordered regular health monitoring but did not order his admission to hospital.

“With regard to the Supreme Court order, the order never ordered hospitalization. It simply stated that an individual’s health is of utmost importance and should be monitored at regular intervals; it did not order hospitalization. So, this is not consistent with the Supreme Court order,” she said.

The hospital says Wangchuk’s health indicators are stable

Medical Superintendent of Safdarjung Hospital, Dr. Charu Bamba, said Wangchuk’s condition is stable but she suffers from mild dehydration and weakness due to prolonged fasting.

“Sonam Wangchuk arrived at the hospital around 7:40 a.m. He is somewhat weak from prolonged fasting and is mildly dehydrated; otherwise, all his vital signs are stable. He is being examined and monitored continuously, and is being treated,” Dr. Bamba said.
