'Dhurandhar' singer Jasmine Sandlas recalls misdiagnosing her first periods with cancer: 'I thought I was going to die, and I was scared, and I didn't know how to tell my mum'

Punjabi singer Jasmine Sandlas, who shot to fame with the song ‘Jai Sajaana’ from Ranveer Singh, Akshaye Khanna, R Madhavan, Sanjay Dutt and Arjun Rampal, recently spoke about her first experience with menstruation.

Speaking on the podcast, she revealed that a lack of awareness around menstruation made her feel terrified when she was a young girl. The singer said that she initially mistook her first menstruation for a serious illness and thought she had cancer.

In a conversation with Hauterrfly, Jasmine shared that menstruation was never discussed at home before she hit puberty. Although her teacher later broached the topic, she admitted she wasn’t ready yet when she got her first period.Recalling the incident, Yasmin said she was studying in seventh grade and living in New Jersey when it happened. “I thought I had cancer,” Yasmine said. “I thought I was going to die. I was so scared. I didn’t know how to tell my mom.” She added that many girls suffer from a similar fear because they do not learn about menstruation in time. Reflecting on this experience, Yasmine said: “Menstruation is a very beautiful thing.

“But when you don’t know what’s happening to your body, that can be the scariest experience.”

The singer also urged parents to have open conversations with their children about menstruation before experiencing it for the first time.
