The US Federal Bureau of Investigation on Tuesday added Indian-origin man Nitish Kaushal to its most wanted list amid the ongoing crackdown on transnational organized crime.According to a statement issued by the CBI, Kaushal is a member of the Jaggu Bhagwanpuria organized crime group, which is involved in murder, kidnapping, drug trafficking, extortion, arms smuggling, money laundering and human smuggling.“This organisation, known as the Jagu Bhagwanpuria Organized Crime Group (‘Bhagwanpuria OCG’), originated in the state of Punjab in India and operated in the central region of California and elsewhere.
Kaushal allegedly carried out acts of violence on behalf of Bhagwanpuria OCG, including, but not limited to, kidnappings and assaults, the agency said.She added: “On June 25, 2026, a federal arrest warrant was issued for Kaushal in the United States District Court, Central District of California, Los Angeles, California, after he was charged with racketeering conspiracy and corrupt organizations.”
This comes days after US federal prosecutors accused imprisoned Indian gangster Lawrence Bishnoi and his close associate Goldie Brar of ordering the assassination of Khalistan separatist activist Hardeep Singh Nigar in Canada.In addition, the FBI and other law enforcement agencies also conducted large-scale raids on Lawrence Bishnoi’s network in the US earlier this week.Agencies have detained about two dozen people in California and elsewhere.The international campaign, dubbed “Operation Hardball”, was aimed at dismantling key factions of a transnational crime syndicate allegedly targeting communities across North America and India.
