The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued warnings of heavy rain and landslides in parts of Himachal Pradesh, as active monsoon conditions are expected to continue over the state in the coming days.

According to the latest warnings, there is a possibility of landslides and mudslides in vulnerable areas of Kangra, Kinnaur, Kullu, Mandi, Shimla and Sirmaur districts of Himachal Pradesh.

The warning also indicates water flow, and water levels are very likely to rise in these areas. People have been advised to avoid high-risk areas and maintain a safe distance from water bodies.
The warning has been issued as part of IMD’s forecast based on the impact on Himachal Pradesh during the ongoing southwest monsoon season. The warnings highlight potential risks in identified areas and call for precautionary measures in areas exposed to rain-related risks.
Heavy rain is likely over the next 5-7 days
Heavy rainfall has been recorded across the state in the last 24 hours, said Shobhit Katiyar, chief of Himachal Pradesh State Meteorological Centre.
“Monsoon activity will remain active over Kangra, Kullu, Mandi, Shimla and Sirmaur during the next five to seven days. Heavy rains are likely to fall at isolated places almost every day in these districts, while the remaining districts are also expected to receive moderate rains over the next four to five days,” Katiyar was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.
“In view of the forecast, warnings have been issued for Sirmaur, Shimla, Kullu, Mandi and Kangra districts. Although rainfall in other districts is expected to remain mostly moderate, residents should continue to be cautious,” he added.

Rainfall is likely to remain active until mid-July
The ongoing active wave of southwest monsoon is expected to continue until approximately July 13-14.
“Our forecast is that after the active first week of July, monsoon activity will continue to be strong till around July 13-14 in both the middle and lower hill districts. During the third week, between July 16 and 22, rainfall is likely to remain active over the middle hills but weaken somewhat over the lower hills. By the last week of July, after around July 23, monsoon activity is expected to gradually weaken across the state,” Katiyar said.
Advice for residents and tourists
It advised tourists and residents in these areas to remain alert and follow weather updates. Those planning to travel through mountainous areas should exercise caution and follow local advice.
People in these areas were advised to remain vigilant, avoid unnecessary movement in vulnerable locations, and follow instructions issued by local authorities as weather conditions develop.
