Incessant heavy rain, heavy traffic, waterlogging and alerts for further rainfall – Thursday was a rainy day in Delhi-NCR. From vehicles collapsing into the ditch to clouds swirling around high-rise buildings, several images have gone viral as normal life has been disrupted by the rain.

While the rains brought a respite from the soaring temperatures in the national capital and neighboring cities, it led to a chaotic morning for daily commuters. Follow live updates on June 9 rain here.
Meanwhile, local administration and traffic police have been deployed in Delhi, Noida and Ghaziabad to manage the flow of vehicles, news agency ANI reported.
Rainfall in Delhi creates chaos
In Delhi, the Mehrauli-Badarpur road emerged as one of the worst-hit roads, with severe waterlogging resulting in a complete blockade of traffic.
Similar scenes were reported from Burari area where roads were completely submerged.

On the other hand, a tree fell near Raja Der Singh Marg in East Kailash due to heavy rainfall.
Delhi Traffic Police also informed that heavy rainfall caused massive waterlogging on National Highway 24 (NH-24) near Ghazipur area.

“The Delhi government is working on war footing to address the waterlogging problem. All government agencies are on high alert on orders of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta,” the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) said.

In Uttar Pradesh’s Noida, residents of Sector 75 witnessed waterlogged roads making transportation difficult. Moreover, heavy, thick and dark clouds engulfed the top of Supernova, the high-rise Spira Tower building located in Sector 94 in Noida. Watch the videos:
In Ghaziabad, Indirapuram and Abhay Khand areas were severely flooded, and passengers were seen wading through knee-deep water to reach their destinations.
A car and a motorcycle fell into a ditch when the road collapsed near Atal Chowk in Vasundhara after heavy rains, news agency PTI reported.
Delhi AQI today
Delhi’s air quality index (AQI) was recorded in the ‘satisfactory’ category with a reading of 61 at 9 am, according to Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) data.
According to the latest forecast of the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Delhi is expected to witness thunderstorms with rain on Friday and Saturday.
