‘The Cadburys’: BritBox reveals cast for six-part drama about Britain’s chocolate empire

BritBox has confirmed the main cast for the upcoming six-part drama CadburyInspired by Deborah Cadbury’s book, Chocolate Wars.

The series will star Harry Gilby (border(such as George Cadbury, Toby Regbo)Outrageous(As Richard Cadbury and Jessica Barden)Dune: Prophecy) As Maria Cadbury, Pierce Quigley (Gentlemen(such as John Cadbury, Ben Hardy)Sorcery: The Last Rites(e.g. Francis Fry, Joanna Scanlan)Riot women(And Bobby Gilbert)Bennett’s other sister) Like Elizabeth Adlington.

Production is currently underway in Birmingham Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Star Freddie Highmore is on board as executive producer.

The Cadburys – previously announced under the working title Chocolate Wars – Described as a warm family drama that follows the visionary Cadbury family, the underdogs of the cocoa world, on their journey towards creating the world-famous chocolate bar.

In 1860s Birmingham – when chocolate as we know it did not yet exist – two very different brothers, Richard (Rigbo) and George (Gilby), find themselves in charge of their family’s failing cocoa business. “Together, they have the radical genius and intense ambition to transform Cadbury into one of the world’s most beloved confectionery companies — if they can only learn to trust and rely on each other,” the story synopsis reads. “Their sister Maria (Barden) juggles between her own role within the family and work, but things get more complicated when she falls in love with Cadbury’s biggest rival, Francis Fry (Hardy) and is forced to question where her true loyalties really lie. Filled with historical delights and magical invention, The Cadbury Family is about how family bonds are built, broken and rebuilt…and how the sweetest things in life are rarely simple.”

Additional cast members include Felicity Montagu, Matthew Baynton, Adam Hashemi, William Singh, Olly Green, and Alexander Butler. The series also stars Leah Swain Heath, Maisie Britton, and Emma Montrochet.

Cadbury She is on commission with UKTV and Sony Pictures Television. The series is produced by Fable Pictures, in association with Alfresco Pictures, and written by Chloe Mei-Lynn Ewart (Beyond heaven), along with Hederwick Turner and Karim Khan.

The show is produced by Faye Ward, Freddie Highmore, Hannah Price and Clare Lundy with Helen Berry for UKTV and Jess O’Riordan and John Farrar for BritBox. The series will be directed by Tom McKay (After the flood) with Hannah Farrell, co-creative director of Fable Pictures, as series producer and Joe Farrugia as casting director.

Sony Pictures Television will handle global sales as international distributor, with Creative UK providing regional support through the ERDF-funded West Midlands Production Fund.
