The Tamil film industry is mourning the sudden demise of legendary director K Bhagyaraj, as actors, directors and political leaders gathered to pay their last respects. Among them was superstar Rajinikanth, who canceled the ongoing shoot of his upcoming film ‘Dharman’ to bid farewell to one of his close friends in the industry. Rajinikanth visited Bhagyaraj’s house, garlanded the body and condoled with the family members.
The actor was seen crying, remembering the director with whom he had a decades-long friendship, after paying his respects and addressing the media.
Rajinikanth describes Bhagyaraj as a wonderful human being
Rajinikanth expressed his grief in heartfelt words while recalling Bhagyaraj’s contribution to cinema and his personal connection with him. “Bhagyaraj was a wonderful human being. He was an extraordinary talent. I still can’t believe he is no longer around,” he said. The actor was reportedly shooting for ‘Dharman’, directed by Ashwath Marimuthu and produced by Kamal Haasan’s Raj Kamal Films International.
However, soon after hearing the news of Bhagyaraj’s death, the day’s schedule was cancelled, allowing Rajinikanth to fly directly to the late director’s house.
His visit reflected the respect and affection he always shared with Bhagyaraj, and pictures of the tributes have since gone viral on social media.
A friendship built over decades and an unforgettable collaboration
Rajinikanth and Bhagyaraj were friends even outside their cinematic association. They appreciated each other’s ingenuity and remained friends regardless of their successes and failures.
Rajinikanth has never been shy about praising Bhagyaraj’s brilliant writing skills, and Bhagyaraj himself has always spoken highly of Rajinikanth. Their association extended to films as well, with Bhagyaraj writing the story, screenplay and dialogues for Rajinikanth’s 1982 blockbuster ‘Pokiri Raja’ directed by S.
P. Muthuraman. The film was a huge commercial success and remains one of the most memorable collaborations between the two legends that cemented their professional relationship and personal friendship.
