The defendants were brought before the court via video technology after their 14-day judicial detention ended today. During the session, the Central Bureau of Investigation, which is investigating the case, requested an extension of their judicial detention.

The court then accepted the agency’s request and extended their detention for another 14 days until June 30.

Earlier, on June 2, the CBI produced both accused Samarth Singh and Giripala Singh before the court after completing their five-day remand in connection with Twisha Sharma’s death. The court then referred them to judicial detention until June 16.

The case relates to the death of Noida resident Twisha Sharma, who died at her marital home in Bhopal on May 12. Her family alleged that she was subjected to dowry-related harassment and psychological torture at the hands of her husband and in-laws.

Following these allegations, the matter was transferred to the Central Bank of Iraq for further investigation. The central agency is currently examining the circumstances surrounding Sharma’s death and the allegations made by her family.

The case involves serious allegations under the newly implemented Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Act, 2023, and the Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961. Giripala Singh faces charges under Section 80(2) for death due to dowry, Section 85 for cruelty to a woman by her husband or relatives, and Section 3(5) for acts done by several persons in furtherance of a common intention. Additionally, she has been booked under Sections 3 and 4 of the Dowry Prohibition Act.

This matter is being investigated further.
