Rebel MP Partha Bhowmik has vacated his government house that served as the de facto headquarters of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) in Delhi, amid a deepening crisis following a series of walkouts since the party lost power in West Bengal last month after 15 years.

Banners of TMC leaders Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee have been moved to a new location.

The Lok Sabha Secretariat on June 9 allotted a flat to Bhowmik as his new official residence as per his request. Bhowmick has eight days to communicate the acceptance or rejection of new housing and complete the formalities in accordance with Parliamentary Housing Rules.

The bungalow was sealed, and TMC’s Delhi operations were shifted to Rajya Sabha MP Nadimul Haq’s residence on Southern Avenue. Banners of TMC leaders Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee were removed from the bungalow.

Earlier, the party’s activities in Delhi were coordinated from the residence of late TMC leader Mukul Roy. After Roy left the party, operations moved to Abhishek Banerjee’s residence, before shifting to Bhowmik’s house on Dr. Rajendra Prasad Road.

Haq’s staff at his residence, where the TMC materials were moved, said they were instructed to bring all documents, office materials and equipment to the new location and move the furniture.

The TMC, which lost its national party status in 2023 and its entitlement to office space in Delhi, has been fighting fires since it lost power in West Bengal. It expelled two of its 78 state legislators before 57 of them rebelled and supported Ritabrata Banerjee as leader of the opposition in the assembly. At least 16 TMC Lok Sabha members rebelled and met West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari.

On Monday, TMC’s Sukhendu Sekhar Rai resigned from the Rajya Sabha. His party colleagues in the Senate, Prakash Shek Barak, on Thursday, and Sushmita Dave the day before, followed suit, bringing down the party’s strength to 10 in the Rajya Sabha.
