A horrific road accident involving a speeding BEST City Transport bus in Mumbai killed one person and injured three others on Monday.

Officials said the bus collided with two cars and several other vehicles in Dadar district on Monday. Traffic in the area also slowed for some time after the accident as authorities conducted a rescue operation, according to officials.

The driver lost control

The driver of a Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) bus reportedly lost control of the vehicle near Plaza Cinema at around 9.30 am on Monday, and collided with two cars, a taxi and two motorcycles.

Eyewitnesses said they heard a loud crash and saw debris scattered on the road following the accident.

CCTV footage captures the horror

Several CCTV cameras installed around the accident scene recorded the horror as the speeding bus was seen colliding with vehicles. One such video shows traffic slowing near a curve when the speeding bus collides with several vehicles, including a motorcycle, from behind.

Two motorcyclists, the bus conductor and another person were injured and were taken to the city-run Sion Hospital.

Who are the infected?

Among the injured was a 22-year-old man, who doctors declared dead. The other three injured people have been identified as Rishabh Gupta (25 years old), Satish Waghmar (48 years old) and Mahesh Dwivode (50 years old). The official said Gupta’s condition was critical as he sustained serious head injuries.

Shivaji Park police and fire brigade personnel rushed to the spot to supervise the rescue operation and manage traffic.

Police said the bus driver was arrested.

Travelers in the area faced delays as lanes were cordoned off and traffic was diverted for some time.
