A man was arrested in Mahoba district in Uttar Pradesh on charges of killing his eight-month pregnant wife with a sharp weapon while she was under the influence of alcohol following a domestic dispute.
According to the police, the accused, named Hanif, was arrested after the police suspected him of changing his stories about what led to his wife’s death, even though he was the one who called the police and reported the incident.
How was the accused arrested?
Police received a call at around 11.30 pm on Saturday from Haneef, Anirudh Singh, district officer of Kulbahar, told news agency PTI. The cops informed that his wife, identified as Manisha Mansouri, 27, died in Bijrari village under Bhanwari police station area in the district. Mahoba area.
The officer further said that the police team found injury marks on the woman’s head and neck caused by a sharp weapon. He repeatedly changed his account of the incident when interrogated by investigators, which led police to classify him as a suspect in the case.
The case opened when the couple’s five-year-old son later told police that his father, who was allegedly drunk, attacked his mother several times with a machete, leading to her death, according to the precinct officer.
Police said the victim was approximately eight months pregnant, and the accused was an alcoholic.
The accused confessed to committing the crime after the child gave a statement against him. After that, the police arrested the accused of killing his wife.
A case of murder was registered and the woman’s body was sent for post-mortem examination.
Wife killed for denying alcohol
In a separate incident, a man allegedly beat his wife to death and hid her body in an iron box after she refused to give him money to buy alcohol in Rajasthan Jhunjhunu last week.
The incident took place in Ajwana Khurd village under Surajgarh police station limits on July 18, but came to light four days later after a foul odor started emanating from the trunk of the car.
The accused, identified as 40-year-old Krishna Kumar Jat, had an argument with his wife, identified as 34-year-old Sulochana, last Saturday over money to buy alcohol, station house officer Ram Singh Yadav said.
“When the woman refused to give the money, the accused allegedly brutally beat her, which led to her death,” he added. The police said that the accused then handcuffed the woman, placed the body in an iron box inside the house and closed it to hide the crime.
A few days later, when a foul odor began to emanate, the accused informed an acquaintance, who eventually informed the police. The officer said: “The body was found inside a locked box and was kept in the morgue. The accused has been detained and is being interrogated.”
The couple’s 16-year-old son was not home at the time of the incident, police said. When he returned, the accused deceived him by saying that his mother had gone somewhere. The police said that the accused confessed to committing the crime during his interrogation, but the exact method and weapon used in the killing have not yet been determined.
“The exact cause of death will be confirmed after autopsy and forensic reports,” Yadav said.
Police added that the couple married in 2009. Police added that further investigations are underway.
