Over the past seven years, audiences have followed the lives of those living in the fantasy world of Euphoria and watched many of its young stars rise to household names. After last week’s episode, the series’ first major death — that of Jacob Elordi’s Nate Jacobs — shocked fans. Sunday night’s finale continued the surprises.

The episode begins with Rue (Zendaya) on the run from Wayne (Toby Wallace) after Faye (Chloe Cherry) turns on her and screams to wake him up while Rue tries to rob the drug cartel. Audiences also see Maddie (Alexa Demme) and Cassie (Sydney Sweeney) grieving after Nate’s body is discovered.

After that traumatic night, Alamo (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje) gives Rue money and vacation but intentionally leaves a bottle of pills out, knowing Rue will take them. While Rue heads to Ali’s (Colman Domingo) house, Lori’s (Martha Kelly) drug cartel is raided and she commits suicide after saying, “I can’t go to prison.”

While at Ali’s house, Ru sees on the news that Vizco (Angus Cloud) has escaped from prison and goes to find him. A clip of Fezco and Rue in a field is then shown, creating an emotional moment for fans of the series, as Cloud died in real life from acute poisoning after an accidental overdose in 2023, one year after the second season aired.

However, the sequence is revealed to be a dream Rue is having, along with a meeting with her mother Leslie (Nica King), in which Ali wakes up to find Rue dead. After testing her Percocet pills, it was discovered that they were laced with fentanyl and that Rue had been poisoned after Alamo learned it was a rat. Considering that Rue struggled with addiction throughout the series, her death was especially heartbreaking.

After her death, Ali set out to get revenge on her, even showing up at the Alamo’s strip club to confront him and shoot him to death.

As for Maddie and Cassie, they plan to rent out the bedrooms in Cassie and Nate’s house to other OnlyFans models in an attempt to pay off their debts and turn it into their own home.

related Ecstasy The other original main cast members, including Lexi (Maude Apatow) and Jules (Hunter Schafer), feel like an afterthought by the end. Jules only appears in one scene without any dialogue, although she is shown crying, making it unclear whether this was because she knew of Rue’s death. She and Rue also don’t have a final moment together in the finale, but in Rue’s dream sequence, a flashback shows Rue watching Jules riding her bike, as she did in the pilot.

Meanwhile, Lexie refuses to help Cassie and Maddie as they grapple with losing Street to drugs. Cassie also doesn’t tell Lexie the truth about what happened to Nate, instead claiming he disappeared.

The episode ends with Ali visiting the family and the farm where Street resided in the season premiere. He tells them that she is now “in a better place” and prays that Rue’s memory will be a blessing. As he prays, he imagines Rue at the end of the table and the two smile. “God bless us all,” Rue says in a voiceover as she bids farewell to the series.

After the season premiere in an after-show clip, Levinson said that Season 3 is about choices and consequences. By killing off Rue, the finale leaves many questions about how the show will continue, if it ever does.
