Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli
New Delhi: After a grueling phase of 70 league matches, the IPL 2026 season is finally ready to wind down its business. Only four teams remain in the competition out of the original 10, all bidding for a place in Sunday’s grand final and trying to lift the coveted IPL trophy. The first playoff match – Qualifiers 1 – will see defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru take on Gujarat Titans at the picturesque HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala on Tuesday. With an outright berth in the final at stake, the contest promises to be a high-intensity clash between two of the most complete teams of the season. There is little to separate the two sides on paper. Both teams finished the league stage with nine wins from 14 matches, with RCB claiming first place only due to their superior net run rate.
RCB’s batting depth versus GT’s strong bowling attack
Led by maestro Virat Kohli, RCB have arguably the strongest batting unit in the tournament. Kohli once again had a prolific season, scoring 577 runs, including a century and four fifties, while maintaining an impressive strike rate of 163.82.The return of opening partner Phil Salt ahead of the qualifiers further strengthens RCB’s top order. Salt had briefly left mid-season with a finger injury after scoring 202 runs at a strike rate of 168.33, including a fifty.
With Devdutt Padikkal (433 runs, SAR 171.82) and Rajat Patidar (393 runs, SAR 183.64) also in excellent form, RCB’s batting has looked relentless throughout the season. Add finalists like Tim David (SAR 197.85) and Venkatesh Iyer (SAR 177.52), and RCB look equipped to challenge any bowling attack.RCB bats in IPL 2026 Powerplay

| Virat Kohli | 276 | 46.00 | 167.3 |
| Devdutt Padikkal | 208 | 104.00 | 174.8 |
| Phil Salt | 118 | 39.33 | 157.3 |
Facing them is a formidable bowling line-up led by Kagiso Rabada and Mohamed Siraj. Rabada has taken 24 wickets this season, while Siraj has taken 17.
GT also has reliable support from Prasidh Krishna (14 wickets) and Jason Holder (13 wickets), along with spearhead Rashid Khan, who has taken 19 wickets.Their pace attack has consistently produced breakthroughs in both the Powerplay and Death Over, making this clash of RCB’s batting depth against GT’s bowling strength one of the defining themes of Qualifiers 1.GT bowlers in IPL 2026 Powerplay

| Kagiso Rabada | 222 | 17 | 9.08 | 19.76 |

RCB vs GT: Powerplay can shape the outcome
However, the contest may be decided during the first six rounds of each round.RCB’s explosive batting line-up will have to survive and face the threat of the new GT ball to build a strong platform. Kohli’s duel against Rabada, especially on the bouncy Dharamsala surface, promises to be one of the biggest battles of the night. The aggressive approach taken by Salt against Siraj – who knows the RCB setup well from his previous stint with the franchise – could also set the tone early. On the other hand, GT has the most successful opening pair of the season.
Sai Sudharsan (638 points, SAR 157.92) and Shubman Gill (616 points, SAR 161.67) currently occupy the top two spots in the Orange Cap standings heading into the playoffs. With Jos Buttler also contributing 469 runs at a strike rate of 155.29, GT’s top order has been among the most devastating this season.GT bats in IPL 2026 Powerplay
| Runs | middle | Strike rate | |
| Sai Sudarsan | 291 | 48.50 | 141.9 |
| Shubman Gill | 289 | 72.25 | 165.1 |
| Jos Butler | 133 | 66.50 | 152.9 |
But they now face RCB’s experienced new-ball duo of Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Josh Hazlewood. Bhuvneshwar, the current Purple Cap holder with 24 wickets, and Hazlewood made the Powerplay their hunting ground throughout the campaign.RCB also have wicket-taking options in Rasikh Dar (14 wickets), while spinners Krunal Pandya and Suyash Sharma have been effective in controlling the middle overs.Perhaps the GT’s biggest concern is its heavy reliance on the top order. Apart from Sudharsan, Gill and Buttler, only Washington Sundar made a notable batting contribution, scoring 303 runs at a strike rate of 153.80.RCB bowlers in IPL 2026 Powerplay
| Balls | Wicket | economic. | Ave. | |
| Bhuvneshwar Kumar | 168 | 15 | 6.57 | 12.27 |
| Josh Hazlewood | 126 | 5 | 10.29 | 43.20 |
| Jacob Duffy | 61 | 5 | 11.70 | 23.80 |
This makes the Powerplay battle even more important. If RCB’s seamers can bat early, GT’s middle order could unravel under pressure. Conversely, if GT’s quick batting can neutralize Kohli and Salt up front, RCB’s batting momentum could take a hit.
Which batting lineup do you think is the strongest in Qualifiers 1?
In many ways, Qualifier 1 could come down to a simple equation: the best in-form players versus the tournament’s most dangerous new players. Whichever side wins that battle, they could take the first step towards the IPL 2026 title.
