How lucky am I that good can come from something I’m doing just because I’m learning to be an actor? There’s tremendous injustice in the world. In Dopesick, when you talk about addiction, the way to treat the problem is to accept that you have a problem.”

Michael Keaton explains why joining ‘Dopesick’ wasn’t an easy decision
In an interview with USA Today in October 2021, Keaton admitted that signing on to the show was a difficult choice given his personal connection to the subject matter. “If the writing wasn’t that good and the quality of the people involved wasn’t that high, I can’t guarantee I would have done it, just based on losing Michael,” he said. The show’s director later revealed that Keaton was the only actor they ever considered for the role, and once he understood the project, there was no looking back.
