Former Uttarakhand Chief Minister Major General (retd) Bhuvan Chandra Khanduri passed away on Tuesday after a long illness. He was 91 and was undergoing treatment at a hospital in Dehradun.

Khanduri was unwell for a long time and was admitted to Max Super Specialty Hospital in Dehradun for treatment.
Confirming this development, his son Manish Khanduri told ANI over phone that the former prime minister died this morning while undergoing treatment at the hospital.
Who is Bhuvan Chandra Khanduri?
Major General Bhuvan Chandra Khanduri (Retd) served as Chief Minister of Uttarakhand between 2007 and 2009 and from 2011 to 2012. Khanduri was a senior member of the BJP who represented the Garhwal constituency in the 16th Lok Sabha constituency.
Pushkar Singh Dhami pays tribute
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, condoling Khanduri’s death, said Khanduri’s death was an “irreparable loss” not only to Uttarakhand but also to national politics.
“We have received the heartbreaking news of the demise of former Uttarakhand Chief Minister, Hon’ble Major General Bhuvan Chandra Khanduri (retd) ji,” Dhami said in a post on X.
“While serving in the Indian Army, Shri Khanduri Ji embodied unparalleled dedication to national service, discipline and commitment. From his military career to his public life, his character remained dedicated to the interests of the nation and public service,” the Prime Minister said.
“In his political career, he established a strong identity of Uttarakhand’s development, good governance, transparency and honest work ethic. As a people’s leader, he took many important decisions for the progress of the country and, through his simplicity, frankness and efficiency, gave a special place in the hearts of the people,” Dhami added.
Dhami prayed for strength for the bereaved family and peace for the departed soul.
“His death is an irreparable loss not only to Uttarakhand but to national politics as well. We pray to God to grant the departed soul a place at his divine feet and give strength to the bereaved family to bear this grief,” Dhami added.
