A man has been arrested after a video showing a group of bikers blocking an ambulance while performing a wheelie on a road in Bengaluru in Karnataka went viral, prompting police to launch an investigation into all those involved.

The ambulance was carrying a patient in need of urgent medical care when five or six bikers allegedly rode recklessly in front of the emergency vehicle, performed wheelies and prevented it from moving despite a continuously blaring siren.

The footage recorded from inside the ambulance was widely circulated on social media. It showed the ambulance struggling to make progress while riders occupied the road. The video also appeared to show several rear-cyclists traveling without helmets, sparking widespread public outrage and calls for action against those responsible.

Deputy Commissioner of Traffic Police, Northern Division, P Jaya Prakash, said officers acted quickly after the video was brought to the department’s attention on social media.

He said: “We took the incident seriously after social media users brought it to the administration’s attention. On Monday morning, we arrested a person in connection with the incident. He is being questioned and based on the investigation, we will take strict action against all the culprits involved.”

Jaya Prakash said that preventing the ambulance from moving is a serious crime because it may endanger the patient’s life.

“No one will be allowed to escape the clutches of the law for tampering with the life of a patient. We are identifying the remaining motorcyclists through viral video, CCTV footage and other technical evidence. Strict legal action will be taken against anyone found involved,” he said.

Investigators are examining CCTV footage from the road between Goraguntepalya and Yeshwanthpur and analyzing the viral video to identify the motorcycles, riders and pillion riders seen in the footage.
