Trinamool Congress (TMC chief and outgoing West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has leveled major allegations against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Election Commission of India (ECI), accusing them of “looting more than 100 seats” and calling the saffron party’s historic landslide win in the state an “immoral victory”.

Speaking to reporters in Kolkata, Banerjee said: “The BJP has looted more than 100 seats. The Election Commission is the BJP’s committee.”

Banerjee, who has been in power for 15 years in a row in Bengal, said: “I have complained to the Commander-in-Chief and also Manoj Agrawal, but they are not doing anything. Do you think this is a victory? It is an immoral victory, not a moral victory. Everything that the Election Commission, along with the Central forces, the Prime Minister and the Home Minister have done, is completely illegal. It is loot, loot, loot. We will come again.”

The historic entry of the Bharatiya Janata Party in Bengal

The saffron party has breached Mamata Banerjee’s citadel in West Bengal and is set to form the government on its own in the state for the first time ever.

“The lotus flower is blooming in West Bengal! The 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections will be remembered forever. The power of the people has prevailed and the BJP’s policy of good governance has triumphed,” Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on X programme.

Even as the counting process continued, TMC continued to raise questions against the Election Commission of India.

“The EEC has abandoned even the slightest pretense of neutrality. After deliberately delaying and prolonging the counting process, it now refuses to issue certificates even in constituencies where the victories are clear – Diamond Harbour, Magrat Purba, Magrat Paschim, Kolpi, Rideji, Patharpratima, Basanti, Bardhaman Uttar and Setai.”

During the counting process, Banerjee visited the Sakawat Memorial Counting Hall in Kolkata. She said that the counting of votes had stopped at several locations and again accused the Election Commission of India and the central powers of acting unfairly.

What’s the latest in Bengal?
