Before giving extensive performances in films like ‘Omkara’ and ‘Tanhaji’, Saif Ali Khan was often seen as the glamorous and laid-back star of the 1990s. Known for his calm demeanor and easy wit, he rarely stirs up controversy.
However, a horrific incident that occurred in the early days of his career revealed a much more dangerous side of fame.
His early image was that of a quiet actor who easily connected with fans, especially through his romantic roles. While he enjoyed the attention, he was never the type to get into confrontations. However, as he once said, some situations, especially in nightlife venues, can quickly get out of control.
In a conversation with Neha Dhupia on No Filter Neha, Saif spoke about the unpredictable nature of such environments. “No, but I was a little wrong too. It’s not the hardest thing in the world to get into… getting something broken on your head in a nightclub in Delhi… it’s a dangerous environment,” he admitted, thinking about how easily things could escalate.

Recalling an incident that took place in 1994, Saif spoke of a confrontation that began casually.
A man approached him in a Delhi bar and asked him to dance with his girlfriend. When Saif refused, the situation quickly turned hostile. “So, this was an unfortunate incident where a guy said, ‘Please dance with my girlfriend,’ and I felt like I didn’t want to do it…and then he said, ‘I’ll do it for you,’ and then he hit me in the forehead with a whiskey glass,” he recalls.
“The situation did not end with that blow. Saif revealed that the quarrel continued even while he was trying to clean the wound.
“And then we ended up in the bathroom and I was wiping because he was bleeding so much… I said look what I did… and he attacked me with dish soap. So, he was crazy and he could have killed me,” he said, describing the frightening turn of events.
