Brian Robbins’ Big Shot Pictures has found its next big bet, and will once again connect the creator economy to the world of animation.
Big Shot is developing a new animated series based on The Bucket List Family, also known as the Gee family (Garrett, Jessica, and their three children), who have traveled to more than 100 countries over the past decade, amassing millions of followers on platforms like YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok in the process.
The project with Big Shot will mix original animation with real-life footage from their adventures.
The family has since written a children’s book, launched an app, and has their own “bucket list” of eco-friendly island resorts, all based on what they’ve created on YouTube and social media.
“The Bucket List family has built a global audience of millions who not only follow, but show up in everything Garrett, Jessica and the kids do,” Robbins said. “This kind of real, earned connection is exactly what these amazing franchises are built on. We’re thrilled to partner with them to bring their animated adventures to life and build something that will resonate with families around the world.”
“This cartoon is something our team at Bucket List Studios has been working on for years,” Garrett Gee added. “We are very excited to partner with Brian Robbins and Big Shot Pictures to bring this great vision to life. We feel they are the perfect combination of traditional Hollywood experience and big networks mixed with the forward-thinking and speed of a young, resilient studio. Our goal in all of this is to share the lessons and values our family has gained during our global explorations of courage, kindness, and of course, family.”
Robbins, the former Paramount co-CEO, launched Big Shot Pictures earlier this year, backed by about $100 million in venture funding, with the aim of developing shows on YouTube before integrating them into cross-platform franchises. The Bucket List family represents a family-friendly approach to realizing this vision, combining the originality and creativity of the creators, with Robbins and Big Shot’s desire to take them to new places, especially in animation, given how popular this space is with kids and family.
“It’s been a decade since we sold everything and moved out,” Jessica Gee said. “We were just young parents wanting to learn from different cultures around the world how to raise our family. Fast forward to today, 10 years later, 100 countries under our belt and a global audience. But now it’s about so much more than just a traveling family. This cartoon will reinforce our original goal: What can we all learn from the people, places and wildlife around the world? I can’t wait to share what we’re creating with the Big Shot Pictures team!”
