'No connection to Pushpa': Rajkummar Periyasamy clears the air on controversy over title of Dhanush starrer 'OM'

After the massive success of Amaran at the box office, director Rajkumar Periyasamy has officially launched his highly anticipated next project, OM, starring powerhouse performer Dhanush.

While the star-studded trailer featuring a stellar cast including Mammootty, Sai Pallavi and Sreeleela, sent ripples of excitement across Indian cinema, it soon sparked a heated debate online. At the film’s recent launch event in Chennai, the director actively broke his silence regarding the controversy surrounding the title of ‘OM’ associated with the 1995 Kannada cult classic, while directly shutting down the widespread social media comparisons to Allu Arjun’s ‘Pushpa’.

Rajkumar Periyasamy explains the controversy surrounding the title ‘OM’.

At the film’s launch event in Chennai, Rajkumar Periyasamy answered questions about the film sharing its title with the 1995 Kannada blockbuster “Om”, starring Shiva Rajkumar. As reported by Filmibeat, the director has denied any controversy surrounding the choice of title. “I finalized the title ‘OM’ while writing the script itself. There is no controversy behind it. Many filmmakers today reuse titles that have been used before, and this is no different,” he said.

He also pointed out that even ‘Amaran’ has a title that was used earlier, adding that the focus should always remain on the story rather than the title.

The sneak peek video also led to comparisons with the movie “Pushpa: The Rise”, as both appear to feature forest-based settings and workers engaged in logging activities. Responding to these remarks, Rajkumar said: “What you have seen is just an introductory glimpse.

“There is absolutely no connection between this film and ‘OM’. Our film has many layers, and the audience will understand its world as more updates are released.

He stressed that the teaser only aims to introduce the atmosphere of the film and not reveal its true story.

High expectations for OM after the success of Amaran

Rajkumar Periyasamy also expressed confidence in the performances given by the actors. “Dhanush sir, Mammootty sir, Sai Pallavi and Sreeela have all done a fantastic job.

As we reveal more about the film, people will understand what makes OM special.

More about “OM”

Besides Dhanush, the film has a strong cast led by Malayalam cinema icon Mammootty, whose presence has added major excitement to the project. Sai Pallavi and Sreeleela play pivotal roles, while rising music composer Sai Abhyankkar takes charge of the soundtrack. “OM” is scheduled to be released on October 10, 2026.
