'Thank God we got pregnant': Angad Bedi was pursuing Neha Dhupia for 8 years, said yes to marriage when she got pregnant

When Neha Dhupia and Angad Bedi got married in an intimate Gurudwara ceremony in 2018, it surprised many. The two never publicly acknowledged their relationship, so the surprise wedding quickly became a topic of discussion.

Just six months later, the arrival of their daughter Mehr led to widespread curiosity about the timeline of their relationship. Now, the couple has opened up about their journey, sharing how a long-standing friendship and unexpected pregnancy brought them together.During a conversation on Bharti Singh and Harsh Limbachiya’s podcast, Angad revealed that his feelings for Neha have been one-sided for years.

“I was pursuing Neha for 8 years. I kept pursuing her all that time, but she never said yes. She was too busy,” he said.He also remembered the moment he first noticed her. “When I first saw her, I thought she was so beautiful. She was running on the treadmill and I was standing in the back, just watching and thinking, what an amazing figure she has. I fell in love with her running form. I was like, she’s an athlete.”At that time, Neha was very focused on her career and not actively pursuing a relationship.

“I thought I had to get up and exercise and go to work, and my entire focus was on work. It wasn’t like I wanted to just focus on work, but if I met someone interesting along the way, that’s OK.”Angad even tried to bridge the gap by collaborating professionally. “She asked me to do a movie with her and said there wouldn’t be any narration, just show up. So I went. I spent time with her on set, but her mother was there too. I ended up spending a lot of time with her mother.”

She thought that if her mother was so nice, she must be nice too.Despite his efforts, he struggled to attract her attention. “There were 5-6 interesting people around her. I wasn’t even in her peripheral vision,” Angad admitted, adding that even her parents were supportive. “She went to her parents and they said: ‘We’re fine, ask her.’ But it kept me on the sidelines for years. What ultimately changed everything was their pregnancy, which they both described as a turning point in their story.

Neha said: “I want to say thank God that we got pregnant, as it is the blessing that brought about the love story.” “Otherwise, keep looking around. The love you’re looking for is right next to you, but we’re always looking away. It’s been there by my side the whole time.”She also added, “It was our daughter who brought us together because we were pregnant and we wanted to do it. The whole universe came together first for him, then for me, then for us.”Angad lightened the mood by joking about his place in her life, saying: “I’m in the top five on her list of priorities – first the kids, then work, then parents, then home, then me.” “The first priority is family, the second priority is work and me,” Neha replied with a smile. In a separate conversation with Peeping Moon, Neha addressed the speculation directly. “Let me set the record straight, yes I was pregnant before I got married, so it’s okay.” Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, she also recalled how the news surprised even her close friends. “At that point it was chaos, and I was pregnant.” She revealed that although she was unable to invite Soha Ali Khan to the wedding, the actress was among the first to know about her pregnancy.Reflecting on that phase, Neha admitted that her relationship with Angad was still new. “You’re also like… unmarried, and you’ve barely dated a guy. This information, no matter how unorthodox or conventional you are, is easier to share with your friends, friends who just had a baby than to tell your parents. It’s a hard thing to come by.”
