During a written test for recruitment of Home Guards in Bareilly on Sunday, a youth was arrested while taking the test on behalf of another candidate, police said.

The examination was conducted by the Uttar Pradesh Police Recruitment and Promotion Board in two shifts on April 25, April 26 and April 27.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Anurag Arya said that during the Home Guard Entrance Examination 2025, the officer in charge of the examination center at Sahu Gopinath Kania Inter College noticed suspicious behavior from one of the candidates during the first shift (from 10 am to 12 noon).

The officer added that following suspicion during the biometric verification process, the said candidate underwent a comprehensive examination, during which he was identified as Anurag (27), a resident of Hardoi district in Uttar Pradesh.
Further investigation revealed that the previous day, Anurag had also taken the first shift exam at Darbari Lal Sharma Inter College (Pilibhit Road, Raithawra), impersonating another candidate named Dharmendra Singh. The police said that this deliberate act was an attempt to gain an unfair advantage, adding that during the investigation, the accused admitted to committing the aforementioned act.

Based on a written complaint lodged by the Inspector-in-Charge, a case was registered at Kotwali Police Station, Bareilly, under Sections 319 (2) (cheating by impersonation), 318 (4) (cheating), 340 (2) (forging electronic document or record and using it as original), 336 (3) (forgery) of the BNS, and also under Public Examinations (Prevention of Injustice). Meaning) Act 2024, police said.
Since then, the accused has been arrested and referred to pretrial detention.
