Six passengers were injured after a Swissair plane bound for Zurich canceled take-off after an engine fire broke out. Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi on Sunday.

The A330, operating flight LX147, was carrying 228 passengers and four infants when the accident occurred shortly after 1 a.m., news agency PTI reported. The sources said that smoke was seen from the port side near one of the landing gear, after an engine problem occurred during the take-off process.

Flight crew immediately It halted takeoff and activated emergency evacuation procedures on the runway.

An airline spokesperson said: “Shortly after take-off, after 1am local time in India, there was a problem with one of the engines. The crew refused to take off and, after assessing the situation, decided to evacuate the aircraft as a precaution.”

The spokesman added: “All passengers and crew evacuated the aircraft via emergency slides. Six passengers are currently undergoing medical assessment. For a small number of individuals who were unable to use the slides, ladders were provided.”

The condition of the injured was not immediately known. More details are awaited.

One of the passengers, Ishaan Jain, posted photos and videos on X.

He added in a comment: “Everyone is fine, only minor injuries to a few. They have arranged hotel accommodation and alternative flights.”

The airline said it is arranging alternative travel for passengers, while Swiss technical specialists are expected to arrive in Delhi to inspect the plane and determine further steps.

Delhi International Airport Limited issued an advisory declaring a complete state of emergency in the early hours of Sunday due to the incident. She added that all stipulated safety protocols were immediately implemented and passengers were safely evacuated, while airport operations remained unaffected.

This development comes days after another runway-related accident at the same airport. On April 16 a An Akasa Air plane and a SpiceJet plane were involved in a minor ground collision near Terminal 1. The Akasa flight was on its way out and the SpiceJet plane was moving after arrival when the two planes collided with each other.

According to aviation authorities, the SpiceJet plane collided with the horizontal tail surface of the Acasa plane, damaging parts of both planes. The passengers and crew were disembarked safely, and both aircraft were stopped for inspection.
