Netflix is looking to the early 2000s bestseller for its upcoming series based on the book.
The broadcaster develops a show based on Nanny diariesa 2002 novel by Emma McLaughlin and Nicola Krauss. Scarlett Johansson, who starred in the 2007 feature film based on the book, will serve as an executive producer on the project from Warner Bros. Pictures. Television and Berlanti Productions.
Amy Chozik (Girls on the bus) and Jenny Bix (Sex and the City,HBO Divorce) are adapting the novel and will serve as a spin-off for the potential series.
While the film more or less follows the plot of the book, the description of the series suggests a somewhat different viewpoint. “Annie, a penniless aspiring writer in search of a story, takes a job as a nanny for an attractive Upper East Side socialite, and immerses herself in an elite world of unimaginable excess,” the chronicle reads. “When she gets her dream book deal to go undercover and expose the outrageous lives of the wealthy, Annie must try to maintain this double life even as she grows increasingly connected to the people and this world…and discover what her elusive boss is really capable of.” Both authors McLaughlin and Kraus worked as nannies before writing the book.
Nanny diaries is the latest in a long line of literary adaptations on Netflix. The streamer recently ordered a series based on Jonathan Franzen Correctionsand Bridgerton, His and hers and Night agent It is among her biggest series this year.
Chozick, Bicks and Johansson (via their This Pictures banner) will executive produce with Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter and Lee London Redman of Berlanti Productions; Jonathan Lea and Keenan Flynn from these photos; and Gary Barber and Sean Hoagland of Spyglass Media Group.
