Twenty years later The devil wears Prada A huge cultural hit, the sequel arrived in New York on Monday night to an unusual sight Runway.
Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci reunited at the Lincoln Center event, where they walked the runway-inspired red carpet and guests showed up in their best couture fashions. The devil wears prada 2 Miranda Priestly, who plays Streep, believes she is still at the top of her game Runway magazine, where Andy Sachs (Hathaway) returns as features editor and they encounter Priestley’s former assistant-turned-rival Emily Charlton (Blunt).
In addition to its stars Prada The creative team also returns, with David Frankel returning as director and Aline Brosh McKenna as writer. On the carpet, Frankel said Hollywood ReportHe’s said no to a sequel for 18 years, and would immediately shut down any Hollywood meeting that turned to discussing it.
But screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna “came to me with the idea that, Oh my God, this world is shrinking so much, this world of fashion and media. What would it be like to be on this sinking ship and Miranda’s future wasn’t secure and Andy’s was shaky? How will they deal with that?“That seems to create a lot of drama,” Frankel said.
McKenna added that at the same time they were having these ideas, they heard that Streep was open to a sequel, “so we went and sat down with Meryl. My personal belief system is that if Meryl Streep thinks it’s a good idea, it’s a good idea.”
One of the most surprising developments in the sequel’s trailer was that Streep’s character, Miranda, seemed to have no memory of Andy Hathaway, or many of the key events that happened in the original film. Frankel explained that the decision may have been “a bit of a stunt on her part” but that it was also “that thing when you have your first boss — he means everything to you, you never forget him, and your boss has a million assistants. You come in and you’re there for a year, who remembers that?”
“It’s been 20 years,” McKenna chimed in. “How many assistants do we think she’s had? She’s got two.” [at a time] So maybe 50, I think. She definitely doesn’t remember [Andy] Within sight, which I think is understandable.

For her part, Hathaway also told reporters about reprising her role as Andie, stressing: “I really like seeing the way she treats people. Andie has come into her own power in her life and you’ll see in this movie, she has someone who works for her. I just like her approach. I feel like she’s kind and gentle and it’s a beautiful story maybe about the way she was treated.”
Tucci also said he’s happy with where Nigel is two decades later – still by Miranda’s side Runway “Because it makes sense. There’s an emotional undertone to it that makes sense.”
Frankel also kept the door open for more stories in Prada “I’m still really curious about where these characters go and if there’s a possibility, we’ll enjoy it, of course.” One major difference this time around is Anna Wintour’s public support for the project, after dismissing comparisons to Miranda at the time of the original. McKenna explained this pivot, “Once she saw the first movie, I think she felt safe and comfortable, so I think she had a certain level of trust with us on this movie. I’m excited to hear her opinion about it.”
The devil wears prada 2 It hits theaters May 1.
