“We maintain regular communication with cricket boards of various countries. As part of this regular communication, we recently reached out to the Board of Control for Cricket in India via an email to communicate with them,” Nazmul Abidin Fahim, Director (Cricket Operations) of BCB, told ANI over phone.“We mentioned in the letter that the Indian national cricket team is scheduled to come to Bangladesh in September to play a series and after that, our women’s team is supposed to go to India. We also included in the letter a request to explore any other possibilities for mutual cooperation in cricket,” he added.
How did the rift between BCB and BCCI start?
The communication comes after a period of tension between the two cricketing countries. Ahead of IPL 2026, Kolkata Knight Riders have signed Bangladeshi pacer Mustafizur Rahman. However, due to political objections from local groups, BCCI ordered KKR to release him, leading to friction between the boards.
The situation escalated further when Bangladesh decided to boycott the T20 World Cup hosted by India, straining relations in cricket. However, diplomatic relations between the two countries have recently shown signs of improvement. Following the February 12 elections, the new government led by Prime Minister Tariq Rahman took steps towards strengthening bilateral relations with India. In an important diplomatic step, Bangladesh Foreign Minister Dr.
Khalil Rahman is scheduled to visit India on April 7-8. With the improvement in political relations, cricket cooperation between the two countries also seems to be back on track, indicating a positive phase in future engagements.
