Police are questioning whether the person who claimed responsibility was actually driving a seized white Lamborghini, which was seen drifting in circles on a central Bengaluru road, due to “inconsistent” accounts, an officer familiar with the development said on Thursday.

The incident occurred near Anil Kumble Circle, where the white Lamborghini was seen performing ‘donuts’ repeatedly in the early hours of March 21.
The footage, which was widely circulated on social media, showed the car making sharp turns and multiple lanes along the stretch, sometimes while other vehicles were present. Based on the video, the Cubbon Park traffic police registered a case and seized the car.
Although Ricky Rai, son of late underworld figure Muthappa Rai, was initially linked to the vehicle, he denied driving it.
His lawyer, Narayana Swamy, confirmed that the car was sent for maintenance and was accompanied by a driver, adding that the accident was not a planned act but an unintended event.
However, investigators said that during interrogation, when the driver who claimed to be driving the car was asked about basic technical details about the car, his answers did not align with the features of the Lamborghini, raising doubts about his familiarity with it.
“With the driver’s account appearing inconsistent, officers are focusing on other forms of evidence. Footage from cameras near MG Road and Cubbon Park is being reviewed to determine who was actually driving the car. An officer familiar with the development said: ‘Recordings from around 2.30am appear to show Ray inside the car, a detail that contradicts his previous denials.’
Officials said additional footage recorded by a bystander is being examined along with CCTV recordings to piece together the sequence of events.
Ray appeared before the police and submitted documents related to the vehicle, while officials requested ownership information from the regional transport office. He was also granted anticipatory bail by the 5th ACMM court.
“We are questioning Ricky Rai’s driver,” said Ravi N, traffic police inspector at Cubbon Park.
A case has been registered for rash and negligent driving, and officials said further action may follow, including fines and possible cancellation of the car’s registration.
Senior officers indicated that strict action would be taken once responsibility is established.
